Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is facing a significant decline in support among the Akan voter bloc, according to a new poll by independent research firm Global InfoAnalytics.

The poll analyzed voting patterns among Ghanaians who voted in the 2020 general elections to gauge support for the leading candidates in the 2024 presidential race.

It found that "among voters who voted in the 2020 elections and responded to the question 'Which of the following candidates did you vote for in the 2020 presidential election', 53.8% said they voted for Nana Addo while 44.6% said they voted for John Mahama."

According to the poll, "Dr Bawumia is underperforming Nana Akufo Addo by 19.2% while John Mahama has gained 9.2% among voters who voted in the 2020 elections."

In key NPP strongholds with large Akan populations, "the poll shows that among those who voted in the 2020 elections, Dr Bawumia is down 21.8% compared to Nana Addo while John Mahama is up 9.6%."

The findings indicate Bawumia is struggling to retain the level of support President Akufo-Addo received in 2020 within the NPP's traditional base.
