The Ministry of Education (MoE) has released GHC26 million to clear outstanding debts owed to suppliers of goods and services for Senior High Schools under the Free SHS program.

In a press statement issued on April 15, the Ministry announced the disbursement of GHC26 million to institutional suppliers responsible for providing school uniforms, physical education kits, stationery and other supplies.

According to the statement, the funds are aimed at ensuring "the smooth running of educational institutions" as the government seeks to foster quality education through its Free SHS policy.

Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, who signed the statement said: "The amount released underscores the Government's commitment to fostering quality education and ensuring the smooth running of educational institutions."

He added that "The Ministry affirms its commitment to ensuring smooth, timely, and efficient distribution of resources as we continue our efforts to improve and sustain quality education in Ghana."

The release of the funds is expected to clear debts owed to suppliers that have been providing goods and services to senior high schools on credit as they awaited payment from the government.

It will ensure suppliers continue to stock items needed in schools without disruptions.
