Akuma (B/A), May 31, GNA - A philanthropist has provided two basic schools at Akuma in the Nkoranza South Municipality with water and sanitation facilities at a total cost of GHȼ50,000.00.

Mr. Peter Worae, a citizen of the town, now resident in the Netherlands, has constructed a mechanized borehole and washrooms for the local SDA basic school, renovated a three classroom block for the Presbyterian primary school and expanded water systems there.

Additionally, he is building a pitch, which would be used to host zonal schools' sports competition in the area.

Handing over the completed facilities to the beneficiaries in a ceremony, he said these were in response to an appeal made to him by the head teacher of the SDA School.

Madam Martha Obeng-Durowaa had told him about the challenges the school faced and he felt deeply touched.

He said Netherlands-based NGO, 'Organization Worae Care' contributed to the implementation of the projects.

Mr. Godfred Axolu, out-going Municipal Director of Education, applauded him for the gesture and also gave high marks to Madam Obeng-Durowaa for her initiative.

He said it was something that the other school heads could learn from.

He reminded the community to show ownership of the projects and put in place a committee to oversee the proper management of the water systems.
