A senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to address the nation concerning the recent power crisis.

According to him, it is very necessary for the President to speak on the matter, especially when his ministers are refusing to be transparent about the issue.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, April 23, Prof Gyampo wrote: "Dear President Akufo Addo, please describe the current situation Ghanaians are facing with power outages. I hope you don't join those with narrow perspectives, who think they are smarter than all Ghanaians, and are refusing to describe our current inability to sustain power as 'dumsor.' But please give your own description of our situation now and let's analyze it."

Prof Gyampo said the president should ensure he leaves behind a positive legacy that will be remembered after his term ends.

"As the UK is your second home country, I'm sure you understand that governing a developing country like Ghana requires keeping focus on sustained actions that transcend partisan rhetoric. As you lead Ghana in your final period, it's important to be candid about our challenges to elicit public empathy, understanding, and support. Failing to admit real problems undermines efforts to solve them and shows arrogance and poor leadership. You have a legacy to leave - good or bad!" he wrote.

Ghanaians have grown increasingly frustrated with the frequent blackouts, which disrupt domestic and commercial activities daily.

Consumer calls for a timetable to help with planning amid the situation have been ignored by the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Energy Ministry, who say the issues are merely due to technical problems.
