Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has voiced his support for winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku's decision to decline a call-up for Ghana's participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Issahaku, currently on loan from Sporting CP, opted to stay at Leicester City ahead of the 33rd edition of the AFCON tournament.

In an interview with Alexis Laura on YouTube, Gyan praised Issahaku for his choice, stating that it has proven to be beneficial.

Gyan said, "Although we needed him in the national team, his decision not to join us for the AFCON, I think, is the best decision he made because he needed to focus on his playing career and ensure he reaches great heights. Ghanaians showed patience despite some criticism, and I believe it has paid off."

This endorsement comes after Issahaku's notable contributions to Leicester City, aiding them in reclaiming their English Premier League status after relegation last season.

The former Dreams FC attacker's decision has been justified by his impressive performance, scoring six goals and providing 13 assists in the Championship for Leicester City.

Meanwhile, Leicester City are prepared to make Abdul Fatawu Issahaku's loan deal permanent following their Premier League qualification.
