Police is ready for November polls - IGP

Ho, July 23, GNA - The Inspector General of Police, Dr John Kudalor has given assurance of the preparedness of the Police Service to ensure that peaceful elections are conducted in November.

He said the Service had met representatives of all political parties and is confident of holding successful, free and fair, peaceful and acceptable elections.

The IGP who was addressing a durbar of personnel of the Service in Ho as part of the Service's dialogue series ahead of the polls, said 'even if elections are held tomorrow, we are ever ready'.

He said the Police was fully aware that the success of the elections was dependent on security and safety at the polls and that measures have been put in place for peaceful elections.

Dr. Kudalor said all the regions were prepared and were complying strictly with directives from headquarters for a coordinated 'police peaceful elections campaign'.

He asked all unit heads to address welfare concerns of their personnel and engage the media and youth groups for event free elections.

The IGP warned the personnel against taking partisan positions and asked them to be firm and fair in their operations.

Mr Redeemer Dedzo, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the Volta Region, said the region had set up an election taskforce and assured the citizenry of violence free elections.

'We have done threats analysis and are ready for action,' he said.

ACP Dedzo appealed to the IGP for some logistics to help show police presence and build confidence in stakeholders.

The Regional Command earlier held a simulation exercise on crowd control.
