The Management of the National Service Scheme (NSS), has said it is offering an optional extension of six months to service personnel still at post who wish to be redeployed for duty.

In a statement signed and issued in Accra, the Acting Executive Director of the Scheme, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, said notwithstanding the official end of the 2015/2016 service year in August, personnel can stay on if they apply.

Speaking to Citi News, Public Relations Officer for the National Service Scheme (NSS), Ambrose Entsiwah Jnr, said that “national service personnel posted across the country have made a number of appeals to us”.

He added that “somewhere last month, the executives of NAFTA across the country, had a meeting in Accra and as part of their resolutions, petitioned the board through the management to government to offer them some sort of extension”.

Mr. Entsiwah Jnr continued to say that “the board discussed the issue and granted the extension” adding that they will be allowed to work for the next six months starting from September.

Mr. Entsiwah also noted that all of them will be doing the extension of their national service in the public sector, stating that none of them will be deployed to the private sector.

He added that those interested have been given the opportunity to apply online, and are going to be paid the same GHc 350 they were receiving initially.
