The Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted Senior High School (SHS) students aged 18 and above a 4-day permission to participate in the upcoming limited voter registration exercise.

In a letter addressed to all Regional Directors of Education and signed by the Acting Director of Schools and Instructions Division, Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, the GES outlined that students can go home from May 7-10, 2022 to register to vote at their respective district offices.

The letter stated that "Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted permission to Senior High/Senior High Technical Schools (SHS/SHTS) students who have attained 18 and above to go home and partake in the limited voter registration exercise scheduled to commence on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 and ends on Monday, May 27, 2024."

It further noted that according to the Electoral Commission, "the exercise will be conducted at its district offices and in difficult-to-access electoral areas across the country."

Mr. Agyemang-Duah added in the letter that "The students have been granted four days off from campus, effective Tuesday, May 7. 2024 to Friday, May 10, 2024 to partake in the exercise in line with the constitutional right of all Ghanaian citizens to exercise their franchise."

The permission granted by the GES aims to allow eligible SHS students exercise their civic duty to register and vote, in line with Ghana's democratic principles.

Meanwhile, the election management body’s exercise spans from Tuesday, May 7, to Monday, May 27.
