The Greater Accra Regional Peace Council (GARPC) has called for strict adherence to the annual ban on noise instituted by the Ga Traditional Council from May 6 to June 6 this year.

During this period, the use of drums, tambourines, clapping, loud music and other forms of noisemaking are prohibited across all areas that fall under the Ga state's jurisdiction.

A statement dated May 2, and signed by Rt. Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, Chairman of GARPC said, "The attention of the Greater Accra Regional Peace Council has been drawn to the Ga Traditional Council's annual ban on drumming and noise-making, which will commence on Monday, May 6th, 2024, to Thursday, June 6th, 2024."

Rev. Osabutey warned that there would be consequences for those who breached the peace and tranquility during the ban period.

He further called on the public to "cooperate and adhere to the ban and refrain from any actions that may breach the peace and tranquility during this period."

The month-long noise ban is instituted annually as the Ga people prepare to celebrate their Homowo Festival, which marks the end of their farming season.
