Dr. Sam Ankrah, an Independent Presidential Candidate has committed to providing tricycles for “Kayayei” workers if he wins the 2024 general elections.

The leader of the Alternative Force for Action (AFA) has also vowed to enhance health and safety by prohibiting the carrying of heavy loads on their heads.

This initiative, he believes, will lessen the burden and enhance the working conditions of “Kayayei” in Ghana.

In a statement released on Wednesday, May 1, Dr. Ankrah outlined his vision for the Ghanaian labour market.

He stated, “Promoting health and safety by banning the carrying of heavy loads on human heads and promoting safer work practices. Providing tricycles for Kayayei workers to alleviate their burden and improve their working conditions.”

He stressed the importance of fair labour practices, improved working conditions, and the protection of workers' rights.

He said, “As we celebrate this day, I want to emphasize the urgent need for fair labour practices, improved working conditions, and a commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all workers. As the leader of Alternative Force for Action (AFA) and a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections, I pledge to prioritize the welfare and well-being of workers if elected as the President of Ghana.”

Furthermore, the Independent Candidate has pledged to eliminate the compulsory retirement age, thereby allowing workers to decide when to retire with dignity.
