2024 NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to President Nana Akufo-Addo against manipulating the 2024 elections process in favor of his vice president and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a post on X on Monday, April 29, Mahama, cited Akufo-Addo's "arrogant nature and inherently anti-democratic personality" as causes for concern regarding his commitment to a free and fair transition of power.

President Akufo-Addo had noted recently that he cannot be succeeded by somebody he has defeated in previous elections.

The statement, according to Mahama, "connotes an arrogant nature and smacks an inherently anti-democratic personality, undermining the fundamental principle of the peaceful transition of power."

The former President reminded Akufo-Addo that "only the votes of the good people of Ghana and the will of the Almighty God will determine who succeeds him," asserting that "the people's power in shaping our nation's future" must be respected.

Mahama warned that based on incidents like the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence in 2020, the Akufo-Addo government is "capable of anything and would not hesitate to trample on Ghana's constitution to manipulate the process in favour of his preferred successor."

He asserted, "I can assure him that Ghanaians and the National Democratic Congress will not allow this to happen," advising Akufo-Addo to ensure a "peaceful, transparent, and credible" transition of power as his legacy.
