2024 NPP running mate: Bryan Acheampong is the most suitable candidate — NPP group to Bawumia

A group within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to select Dr. Bryan Acheampong as his running mate for the 2024 elections.

The Move Ghana Forward Movement, in a statement seen by ModernGhana News, said Dr. Acheampong best fits the criteria to partner Dr. Bawumia to secure victory for the NPP in 2024.

"The Bryan Acheampong of Offinso Kayera and Kwahu Nkwatia! Two in One Package! The Ashanti and Eastern Agenda!" the group said quoting Dr. Acheampong's origins.

The group cited Dr. Acheampong's royal lineage in Offinso, Ashanti Region as well as Kwahu where his grandparents settled, giving him links to both strongholds of the NPP.

"Not only does Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong comes from the combined stock of Ashanti and Eastern Region. He has his political bases in the Kwahu block, Suhum block as well as the Ashanti block with Offinso," the statement added.

The group also touted Dr. Acheampong's experience in government including his current role as Minister of Food and Agriculture, saying he has the expertise to help the vice president in achieving his digitalization agenda.

"It is our submission that based on the foregoing analysis, Dr. BRYAN ACHEAMPONG, IS THE MOST SUITABLE CANDIDATE for the position of NPP Running Mate," the group concluded.

The call puts pressure on Dr. Bawumia to consider Dr. Acheampong out of other prominent names being speculated, as he prepares to name his running mate.

Sources say the NPP flagbearer will name his vice presidential candidate in early April with names like Education Minister Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum and Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh being in the lead.

STATEMENT BY MOVE GHANA FORWARD MOVEMENT ON THE CHOICE OF RUNNING MATE FOR THE NPP

THE CHOICE OF A RUNNING MATE
The NPP Constitution provides in Article 13(3) states that, when the President is not the Candidate, the Vice Presidential Candidate shall be nominated AT LEAST TWELVE (12) MONTHS before the general elections unless the National Council under special circumstances dispenses with this requirement.

So, per this provision and considering the exigencies of time, the National Council has limited time at their disposal to make a final determination.

As expected, speculations are rife, and several prominent names have been mentioned for this job. Unfortunately, only one person will make it.

The choice of a Running Mate for the great party (NPP) must reflect the party that is serious at consolidating its gains within its strongroot.

The Ashanti and the Eastern Region being the two(2) strongest holds of the party present themselves as most advantageous focal points for any strategic eyeballs in search of a Running Mate for the New Patriotic Party(NPP).

WHO IS DR. BRYAN ACHEAMPONG
Dr. Bryan Acheampong is a Royal from Offinso in the Ashanti Region and that has not been disputed. That makes him an Ashanti since he is the grandson of one of the founding fathers of Offinso Kayera.

By virtue of movement, his grandparents came to settle at Kwahu hence he was born and bred in Kwahu. Hon. DR. Bryan Acheampong also stayed in Suhum where he contested for the parliamentary candidature of the NPP but lost to Hon. Frederick Opare Ansah.

In the light of these, he also fits the Eastern card which is also a stronghold of the NPP.

He also has rich experience in governance as evidenced by the numerous portfolios to his name in this Nana Akufo Addo government with his current one being the Food and Agriculture Minister.

His LOYALTY to the party is also unmatched.
WHO HE IS TO HIS BASE
As s results of his entrepreneurial exploits and his Development oriented nature, the Youth of Offinso Kayera not long ago, called on Dr. Bryan Acheampong to become their chief since he is a royal of the land.

The youth called on the Minister for Food & Agriculture to serve ‘home’ as their chief following the death of Karikari Wiafi-Ababio.

In a joint press statement, the group believes Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a royal from the Ayensua Kokoo Asona Abusua royal gate, will champion development.

Dr Acheampong is our royal, whose grandparents migrated to Kwahu; we believe that, based on what we have seen him do elsewhere, if we all rally behind him, he will help us develop.” Nana Owusu Ansah, a youth leader, expressed.

His contribution to the improvement of the life of public workers like teachers in his Constituency, Abetifi cannot be overemphasized.

THE COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE
Not only does Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong comes from the combined stock of Ashanti and Eastern Region. He has his political bases in the Kwahu block, Suhum block as well as the Ashanti block with Offinso.

Beyond his political astuteness and competence, his selection as Running Mate to partner Dr. Bawumia will also be consistent with the NPP’s uncompromising tradition and time-tested convention of always presenting a career politician alongside a technocrat on its presidential ticket.

The Party cannot afford to get it wrong as we build up to the crucial elections of 2024, which is a must-win for the NPP. The facts speak for themselves.

From all indications, HON. DR. BRYAN ACHEAMPONG is certainly the RIGHT MAN for the job.

The sure man not only to move the NPP forward but the country forward.
