National Nightmares

Certain national issues continue to give us nightmares, leaving us to wonder whether Ghana is jinxed. Recent happenings give us that concern, including the decision of that truck driver to park his truck on the railroad from Tema to Mpakadan.

This fatalistic action by that deranged driver is being defended by the NDC, its leaders and others who speak on behalf of that party. Other things have happened recently such as the relocation of the Ameri plant to Kumasi and the power challenges that have confirmed our conviction that the Akufo-Addo government has surrendered the authority of the state to the opposition of NDC.

All is not lost though for President Akufo-Addo to re-engineer the statecraft to put the NPP government back in control. To do that, President Akufo-Addo has to tame the spirit of “greedy bastards” that is finding home in the offices of some of the current appointees of the government. That NDC “bad spirit” should be exorcised now to bring back hope to many of the NPP supporters who believe the appointees are scoring too many own goals.

President Akufo-Addo should redirect the energies of his men and women to live up to the high expectations of the people after his inauguration on January 7, 2017.

The NDC communicators and even the leaders have been told to scream dumsor is back when there is no such thing and also paint the relocation of the Ameri plant to Kumasi as deceitful and a waste of the tax payers' money.

Throughout our political history, the NDC has never been an ally of the poor although it claims the party’s philosophy is rooted in social democracy. We have always reminded Ghanaians to be wary of the jokers on the political terrain now because they are empty and hollow.

Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar and leader of the Third Force after his Kumasi canal faux pas would be careful about statements he makes on the platform.

But he cannot help but be on the loose by stating that, “I will bring a currency that does not cause inflation”. Does he know about the world economy? And does he also know about inflation in countries with convertible currencies like the dollar, the pound sterling and euro?

We have a duty to inform, educate and entertain, but in this election year our focus will be on education and information. We will inform and educate the electorate about the characters who are offering themselves for office so that we do not exchange our progressive strides for utopian and sweet promises.

We reiterate our call on the people to at least ask John Mahama and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen how they intend to fix what they term the broken free SHS.

During the Kufuor era, the NDC Minority then including John Mahama walked out during the crucial vote on the National Health Insurance Scheme, and other pro-poor policies. John Mahama and his people convinced their supporters not to register for the National ID Cards because it was a ploy to impose taxes on them. But when the opportunity came John Mahama and some of the NDC leaders received special treatment to register for their cards.

They again openly demonstrated their dislike for free education by sponsoring advertisement to demonise arguably the most progressive policy since independence as 419.

However, these policies when they seem to be resonating with the people, then the NDC led by John Mahama wants to claim credit by stating that they started the pilot.
