Government will reconstruct shops ravaged by a recent fire at the Madina Market in Accra, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced.

Dr. Bawumia made the statement after touring parts of the market gutted by an intense blaze on April 10.

“I toured parts of the Madina Market gutted by fire last week," he said in a social media post on Friday, April 19.

The new development will see a three-story made up of 120-store facility to replace the destroyed structures.

“I conveyed government’s concern, and immediate steps to replace the burnt shops with a new three-story, 120-store facility," Dr. Bawumia stated.

The Vice President further assured affected vendors of government’s readiness to offer them financial assistance.

“As well as some financial support, after a verification process by the Municipal Assembly," he noted.

Dr. Bawumia urged all market traders nationwide to insure their businesses to help continue their businesses should any unforeseen incident occur.

“I also urged the traders, and all traders in our various markets, to take fire insurance and other insurance schemes seriously, in order to protect their investments," he emphasized.
