Election 2024: Mahama has nothing new to offer Ghanaians, Bawumia is the future – Afenyo-Markin

The Majority in Parliament has urged Ghanaians to turn away from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming December elections, citing the lack of fresh solutions from the opposition party.

According to the Majority group, electing the NDC could result in a leadership crisis within the party, as its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, would be limited to a single term.

Addressing reporters in Accra on Friday, April 19, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin expressed concerns about a potential lack of urgency in governance under a Mahama-led government.

He emphasized that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia offers a more promising future compared to Mr. Mahama.

"We have the NDC candidate who has previously served as vice president and president. He's had a significant tenure in both roles. We are familiar with his track record. It's the same individual with the same team returning to promise solutions, but their track record speaks volumes," Afenyo-Markin stated.

Speculating on the consequences of a Mahama presidency, he suggested that with only one term, there might be a lack of urgency and potential internal party strife over leadership succession.

"A government led by him would face internal struggles from day one, as party members vie for future leadership roles. What Ghanaians need is a stable government with a clear vision... Dr. Bawumia represents a brighter future compared to John Mahama," he asserted.

Furthermore, Afenyo-Markin highlighted that NDC's running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has not initiated any significant infrastructure projects in the Central Region, which, in his view, raises questions about the party's credibility in the upcoming December polls.
