The Tema General Hospital has denied reports that some lives, including a newborn baby, were lost during a power outage at the facility last Tuesday.

In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, March 27, the hospital Medical Director Dr. Richard Anthony said "It must be emphasized that no lives were lost as a result of this power outage."

This denial comes in the wake of videos circulating on social media of the incident at the hospital, which showed parts of the facility being illuminated by torchlights during a power cut.

A lady reportedly granted an interview to some media houses claiming that her newborn baby died due to the power outages at the hospital.

This report has since sent social media into a frenzy as many are lambasting ECG about the frequent power cuts and its refusal to issue a load-shedding timetable.

The statement said the generator set at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) tripped off for a short period during the outage but power was restored within two hours by the hospital's electricians.

The hospital said it would continue prioritizing patients health and safety.
