Accra, Dec. 10, GNA - The New York University Centre for Technology and Economic Development (NYU CTED) in collaboration with the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands and Kumawuman Traditional Council will inaugurate the Kumawuman Customary Lands Secretariat Office.

The event will take place on December 21.
Professor Yaw Nyarko, Director of New York University CTED, said: 'Opening the first Customary Lands Secretariat in Kumawu is a significant achievement for our community to document traditional land rights.'

A statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the Secretariat was to create transparent and sustainable systems for land tenure and governance for the people of Kumawu.

'It is our hope that the programmes developed in Kumawu can be applied to spur investment, economic growth, and prosperity,' he added.

Over the years, NYU CTED has worked closely with the Kumawuman Traditional Council and community members to understand traditional governance structures, land rights and mapping, and the immense cultural heritage that can be utilised to catalyse economic prosperity for the people of Kumawu.

Through research grants and programmes, CTED has established technology-driven research centres in Accra and Kumawu.

Together with Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua (Kumawumanhene), Nana Serwaa Amponsah (Kumawuhemaa), and the Kumawu Traditional Council, CTED has launched innovative community-based economic development initiatives, including the Kumawu Palace Museum to highlight the rich cultural heritage and potential of the community.
