The headmistress of Amanianpong Senior High School at Asante Mampong, Mrs. Margaret Afarewaa Appiah, has stressed the need for parents to give serious attention to their daughters' education.

Mrs. Afarewaa Appiah said this when addressing the 90thAnniversary celebration of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Wiamoase congregation in the Ashanti Region. The topic for the celebration was, 'The Anointing of the Holy Spirit, Parenting and Girl Child Education.'

The headmistress bemoaned the incidence of brilliant girls dropping out of school after the junior high level. She attributed this to lack of parental care, financial difficulties and pregnancy, adding that when parents remain vigilant they could check the bad behaviours of their daughters.

The headmistress pleaded with parents, especially women, to focus on their daughters' future instead of spending money on cloth for funerals and social functions. She urged parents to provide basic needs for their adolescent girls and endeavour to monitor their growth and movements.

The district minister in-charge of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Riis Congregation at Wiamoase, Rev. Abronoma Nyarko-Anti said children are gifts from God and so parents must strive hard to take good care of them.“Remember that there are many social vices confronting the youth and parents must be vigilant to lift their children from the cesspool of evil and immorality. We must handle our children with care because we shall one day give account on how we handled them before our creator the Almighty God.”

Present were Mrs. Philomina Brobbey, headmistress of Okomfo Anokye Senior High School and Mrs. Nana Osei, headmistress of Agona SDA Senior High School.
