PPP Disqualification saga: Court orders Nduom, EC to present arguments by Monday
OCT 20, 2016 LISTEN

An Accra High Court has ordered PPP Flagbearer Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom to file his statement of case in support of his suit challenging his disqualification by the EC.

The same applies to the Electoral Commission. The Court gave a Monday deadline after which the parties are expected to make their oral submision on Tueday.

The Court will then give a ruling a week later, Joy News' has reported.

The hearing of the suit challenging Nduom's disqualification began on Thursday with EC Lawyer Thaddeus Sory moving a motion for abridgement of time so that the matter could be heard as early as possible.

He argued that the EC needs to print ballot papers and other Electoral materials so they want the matter to be heard as early as possible.

Ayikoi Otoo who is legal counsel for Dr. Nduom did not oppose this motion but rather said they need the opportunity to respond to some issues the EC had mentioned in their affidavit in opposition to their suit.

Justice Eric Kyei-Baffour then directed that Hon Ayikoi Otoo does that before the close of Thursday.

Lawyer Otoo pleaded that the Judge gives them more time since Dr Nduom was not in the country. The Judge then directed that they file that via email by the close of Friday.

Justice Kyei-Baffour also granted the request for abridgement of time.

Speaking to Joy News after proceedings, PPP Policy Advisor Kofi Asamoah Siaw said he was glad the Judge had given directives to ensure that the matter was determined quickly.
