The outgoing President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Paa-Quecy Adu has issued a statement that the self-imposed President of NUGS, Luqman Abubakari, who is yet to be arraigned before the law court is an imposter who was not validly elected President of NUGS.

“Luqman is an imposter and we entreat all and sundry to refrain from dealing with him in any capacity whatsoever,” he stated.

He noted that their attention has been drawn to claims by one Luqman Abubakari carrying himself as President of the National Union of Ghana Students.

“The said gentleman carrying himself as NUGS President has no legitimate right to that title of our noble union. At NUGS, we elect our national leaders and under no circumstance do we appoint leaders,” he stated.

During a press briefing in Accra, he said whilst he (Luqman Abubakari) claims to the presidency are ridiculous, lacks the sincerity and truth thereof, “I am by all means obliged to set the records straight.”

Paa-Quecy Adu indicated that at the just ended Annual National Residential Delegates Congress in Hohoe, delegates drawn from various institutions across the country voted and elected Mr. Julian M. Cobbinah as NUGS President for the 2016/17 academic year.

He added that the congress organised under EC supervision at the St. Francis College of Education, Hohoe is the only legitimate avenue recognised by their sovereign constitution concerning where and when national executives of the Union are elected.

According to him, before NUGS congress could even begin, Luqman encouraged by detractors of the union appointed himself as president because he lacks the courage and temerity to stand for a competitive elections.

The outgoing NUGS President emphasized that the last they heard, was he carrying himself as president when the current NUGS President has not left office yet.

He posited that the said imposter (Luqman Abubakari) is languishing in the cells of the Regional Police Headquarters after he with the support of tugs " Macho men" tried to abduct the NUGS President-Elect, Julian M. Cobbinah as he was about to speak on News @10 by TV3.

Paa-Quecy Adu indicated that as a law abiding organisation, they entreat the police to let the law have its course to serve as deterrent to individuals who would want to perpetuate evil in the Union’s name.

He intimated that the leadership of NUGS takes strong exceptions to media reports that there are two rival NUGS groups.

“As it stands now, there is only one National Union of Ghana Students and I remain the president until I dutifully handover to the Julian M. Cobbinah led administration as stipulated by the NUGS constitution,” Paa-Quecy Adu stated.

According to him, their disappointment knows no bounds at the conduct of some media houses, who failed to verify claims by the imposter Luqman and his entourage of desperate ‘wanna bes’.

JULIAN MAWUSE COBBINAH IS NUGS PRESIDENT-ELECT

Having said this, he declared that the current leadership of NUGS only recognises Julian Mawuse Cobbinah and the other executives elect.

Paa-Quecy Adu urged all stakeholders particularly the media to disregard any attention seeking venture of Luqman or any of his surrogates.

According to him, the Union will not hesitate to take drastic measures against any entity that deals with any ‘unrecognised’ individual in the name of NUGS.

He concluded by issuing a caveat that “we are sending a stern warning to the imposter of a certain self-acclaimed NUGS President, Abubakari Luqman and his shameless self-acclaimed executives to steer clear of the Union’s affairs.”
