Common sense: rest in perfect peace, my brother!

Common sense: rest in perfect peace, my brother!

In African schools and churches sticks in the hands of teachers and ushers to discipline the upcoming generation is common, especially in the rural areas. In Germany, teachers and lecturers sleep with the civil code and law books under their pillows and carry them to schools and universities. Common sense meanwhile is waved goodbye potentially not resurrecting any time soon.

Developing countries live life as it is real in all its facets for better and for worse. Unlike developed nations, they can not do cherry-picking. Citizens of high-pitched nations have become thin-skinned.

To crack common old jokes from childhood about the weaknesses of men and ladies in their own rights are regarded in e.g. German schools and universities as sexual harassment and not politically correct. As more foreigners pass through our education system with their cultural backgrounds to speak out with common sense of days passed by could face disciplinary consequences.

Parents today are more likely to fall into the category of helicopter parents monitoring every aspect of their student's teachings. Students of all levels from Primary school to university level know of their rights and are often better informed than teachers and lecturers. Authorities like teachers, lecturers, policemen, judges, firefighters and ambulance drivers or doctors are the shadows of ancient times. To use not correct law book words can cause potential trouble as freedom of speech is restricted to the letters written down in black and white. To speak freely is limited to private settings behind closed doors.

A lecturer must have earmarked his law book when it comes to his personal values. Religious conviction to slightly tap into at school must only be done in religious classes nowhere else and come with mentioning all possible religious faiths at the same time not to be seen as biased or discriminating. To possibly mention personal sexual orientation must be carefully drafted before the background of same-sex marriages.

When I was asked by adult students to explain the essence of witchcraft I showed a documentary about a witch in Ghana who sacrificed a live chicken and blood was flowing. Little was I aware that showing the reality of witchcraft could motivate some female students to complain about it to the Head of Administration. The case was settled that before showing videos I must advise of some harsh reality scenes of the documentary a balancing act for a lecturer of Political Sciences and History when it comes to the wars in this world or injustice committed in e.g. African countries. Yet these less-informed students wonder about the number of refugees in Germany.

Refugees are part of our society as life is as it is, not a drama from the comfort of a cozy home with beer and chips in close reach but often with blood, cruelty, and hardships. To be a helper and good Stuart of humanity correct information is essential regardless of the pain it causes the highly developed mind. My remarks made years back to a girl, form 7 with parents who had migrated from Ghana "I with my 6 years of having lived in Ghana makes me laugh when as a white man like me lecture people like you with your background your own home country." I was dismissed from the job the same afternoon with no chance given to explain myself something even killers in any court have a right to.

The grandparents and parents of our younger law enforcement generation went through the hardship and reality of war or economic hardships while their children are well pampered by a sophisticated social system with peace all around when TVs are only on standby.

Life is real and happiness is the reward for real life lived well.
