Founding President of IMANI Africa Franklin Cudjoe has weighed in on the recent accident involving Ghana’s newly procured train from Poland on Wednesday.
He questioned how a sound-minded person could leave his vehicle on a rail track leading to the accident.
The policy advisor took to Facebook on Saturday, April 20, asking if the tracks on which the test drive was done had been in use.
“Sad to learn of the train accident. How could any normal person leave a car on rail tracks? Sky train or procurement shenanigans?
“By the way, was the railway line the new coaches were to test run on actively in use?” he quizzed.
The train, according to the Railway Ministry, collided with a stationary vehicle found stationed across the tracks at a location not designated as an authorized level crossing.
The ministry said in a statement that despite emergency braking, the train was unable to stop before hitting the vehicle upon approaching a curve.
Meanwhile, Abel Dzidotor, the driver responsible for the train accident, has been sentenced to a six-month jail term.
Dzidotor admitted guilt to three out of the four charges levelled against him including inconsiderate driving and causing unlawful damage.
