Mike Oquaye Jnr, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, has refuted allegations circulating in a viral video suggesting that he was washing the underwear of one of his constituents during a door-to-door campaign.

Addressing the issue on social media, Oquaye Jnr clarified that the video was manipulated and misleading.

He asserted that he was indeed engaging in a door-to-door campaign, during which he assisted a constituent in washing her jeans shorts, not her underwear as falsely portrayed in the video.

Dismissing the claims as propaganda orchestrated by his political opponents to tarnish his image, Oquaye Jnr expressed frustration over the dissemination of false information aimed at misleading the public for political gain.

"What is your propaganda and lies that I washed so and so which is a blatant lie and a complete fabrication? Why did you not say what I really did, chatting with and washing jeans shorts with a constituent?" Oquaye Jnr questioned in a Facebook post.

Asserting his commitment to serving his constituents, Oquaye Jnr emphasized that his actions were driven by a desire to connect with the people and earn their support, rather than by political gimmicks.

He referenced examples of renowned politicians, including the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, who engaged in similar acts of humility to garner support from Ghanaians.

In fact, Oquaye Jnr revealed that the constituent he assisted in the video was so appreciative of his gesture that she abandoned her other chores to accompany him on the door-to-door campaign.

"The woman I engaged with and washed clothes with says she loved it, she loves my humility and will vote for me. You are sitting on social media and talking plenty. In fact, as for the lady I chatted and washed with, she left the rest of her washing and followed me from house to house," Oquaye Jnr stated.
