Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken a swipe at the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

He claims that the government will soon relocate the Ridge Hospital in Accra to Kumasi to recommission it to replace the ailing Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

"Very soon, the failed Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government will relocate John Dramani Mahama’s Ridge hospital to Kumasi for recommissioning, given the fact that the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is in poor condition," he wrote via X on Thursday, April 18.

His comments come after the government relocated the 250-megawatt AMERI Thermal Power Plant from Aboadze to Anwomaso, near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The NDC has been criticizing President Akufo-Addo for renaming the AMERI Power Plant to the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power plant.

The AMERI Power Plant was procured in 2015 under a build-own-operate and transfer arrangement to generate a total of 250 megawatts.

Under the arrangement, Ghana was to take full ownership of the 250-megawatt capacity power plant after paying $510 million within five years.

However, according to the NDC, the decision to rename and relocate the plant to Anwomaso is unrealistic and costly.
