The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has warned the youth of Tema to desist from attacking its installations at the Tema Naval Base and its personnel.

This follows two mob attacks on the Tema Naval Base.

The multiple mob attacks followed an incident on Friday, April 12, where a vehicle belonging to the Eastern Naval Command of the Ghana Navy was attacked by a crowd partaking in an ongoing festival at Tema Newtown.

The vehicle was not only damaged but three of the Naval personnel onboard the vehicle also sustained severe injuries and were sent to the Tema Naval Base Medical Centre for treatment.

After three suspects were arrested and handed over to the Tema Newtown District Police for further investigations, a mob suspected to be part of the celebrants of the festivities attacked the Tema Naval base with stones and other implements to release their colleagues.

Again, on Saturday, April 13, the mob attacked the Tema Naval Base and the Naval Barracks at Tema New Town (Biekro Barracks), leading to the destruction of properties.

In a press release on the matter, the Ghana Armed Forces has warned that any more attacks will be met with the appropriate response.

“We wish, however, to caution the youth of Tema that any further attacks on our installations or personnel would be met with the appropriate response,” the Ghana Armed Forces press release signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General Public Relations said.
