The people of Ejisu constituency will be heading to a by-election in the coming months to elect a new Member of Parliament following the sudden demise of incumbent MP John Kumah Ampontuah.

Meanwhile, former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has hinted at contesting the vacant seat on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an interview on the sidelines of the NPP campaign team launch in Kumasi, Nyantakyi subtly revealed his intentions to participate in the by-election for the Ejisu constituency once a date is announced by the election management body and the party.

"The Ejisu by-election will definitely come on, but the timetable has not been published yet so we don't know those who want to contest. Since I come from there and I have the right to contest, at the right time, we'll see what will happen," Nyantakyi stated.

He, however, acknowledged that the period is one of mourning for the constituency following the loss of their illustrious son and brother John Kumah.

“But at the moment, we are mourning the demise of a very dear son of the constituency. The Member of Parliament is a big loss to the constituency and let's see what happens after the one week," the former GFA boss said.

Mr. Nyantakyi further called for calm among rank and file of the party as NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia selects his running mate for the 2024 polls.

“I think it is a prerogative of the flagbearer to select the running mate, so let's leave it to him. At the right time, he'll do that," he added.
