London, UK - Sir Graham Brady, the Chairman of the 1922 Committee and a prominent member of the Conservative Party, has been honored with the Freedom of the City of London in recognition of his extensive public service.

Sir Graham Brady has represented Altrincham and Sale West as a Member of Parliament since 1997. Throughout his political career, he has held various significant positions, including Shadow Minister for Schools, Shadow Europe Minister, and roles as a whip within the Conservative Party.

His most notable role is that of Chairman of the 1922 Committee, a position he has held since 2010. In this capacity, Sir Graham acts as the voice for backbench Conservative MPs and oversees leadership elections within the Conservative Party.

Beyond his political commitments, Sir Graham Brady has actively participated in several civic and charitable endeavors. He served as a Governor of Manchester Metropolitan University, contributed to the Hamblin Education Trust, acted as a patron of the Counselling and Family Centre in Altrincham, and supported Stockdales, a charity dedicated to aiding children and adults with learning disabilities in Manchester.

City Corporation Policy Chairman, Chris Hayward, expressed the significance of bestowing the Freedom of the City of London upon Sir Graham, acknowledging his longstanding contributions to public life and Parliament. Hayward stated, "Today we show our gratitude for all that he has done for Parliament and his involvement in many worthy causes across the country."

Bob Wigley, Chair of UK Finance and a Past Master of the Guild of International Bankers, commended Sir Graham Brady as a deserving recipient of the Freedom. Wigley highlighted Sir Graham's unwavering support for the City of London and the financial services sector, recognizing their pivotal role in bolstering the UK economy.

Responding to the honor, Rt Hon Sir Graham Brady expressed his appreciation for being awarded the Freedom of the City of London, an ancient tradition dating back to 1237. He acknowledged the City of London's vibrant and prosperous role in the British economy.

The Freedom of the City of London is a distinguished recognition granted to individuals in tribute to their exceptional contributions to London, public life, or significant achievements. Recent notable recipients include theatrical legend Sir Cameron Mackintosh, LGBTQ+ activist and London Night Czar Amy Lamé, Bank of England Deputy Governor Sir Jon Cunliffe, and Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert, the driving force behind the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
