With barely a day for the Black Stars to kick start their campaign in the World Cup against Serbia, several Ghanaians are optimistic that the team will go places in this year's mundial.

Scores of Ghanaians that this paper spoke to expressed positive sentiments about the team despite the absence of some key players such as Michael Essien through injury and Laryea Kingston who was dropped at the last hour.

The Black Stars battles Serbia in the opening match of Group D at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday and already the players are in high spirits of delivering after showcasing an impressive form in their maiden edition despite the odds.

Sammy Aboagye of Taifa told DAILY GUIDE SPORTS the Black Stars would do better than their maiden edition where some of the players were inexperienced to play at the bigger level, which he noted, manifested in the match against Brazil in the second round.

“I think the Black Stars would brush off Serbia and Autsralia and then fight for at least a point against Germany to book a place for the second round. I am hoping the Black Stars get to the quarter finals this time around”, Mumuni Alhasssan of Accra Newton said.

Abena Opoku of Dansoman was full of praise for the Black Stars players especially his idol Quincy Owusu Abayie, whom she said she had fallen in love with. “I think Abayie would deliver the goals for Ghana.”

Reports emanating from the regions also indicate that euphoria is high among most Ghanaians who are hoping Ghana and the other five African countries would prove to the world that Africa has arrived in the world Cup.

Kids have also not been left out of the fever characterizing the world cup despite being staged by South Africa.

They are anticipating an exciting world cup which would be shown on three local television stations.

Meanwhile, reports reaching this paper indicate that the Black Stars have intensified their preparations towards the big game on Sunday.

According to information gathered, Coach Milovan Rajevac is fine-tuning his tactics and possibly arrive at the starting 11 for the big must win game. Ghana lost its first match against the Azzuris of Italy in the last world cup but made amends in the second round against Czech Republic and USA to qualify for the second round.
