Sampha's Career
Through Myspace, Sampha met London producer Kwes in 2007; Sampha claims that Kwes' music changed his life. He was mentored by Kwes, who also exposed him to bands Mica "Micachu" Levi, Ghostpoet, DELS, and Young, the label he eventually joined.
Sampha interned at the label in 2009. Through Young, Sampha also met his early colleagues, SBTRKT, Jessie Ware, Bullion, and Lil Silva, and had the opportunity to remix "Basic Space" by The xx. Sampha is also Flirta D's cousin, a member of the grime music group SLK.
In 2017, Sampha released his debut album, Process. As a result of the album's widespread praise, Sampha won the Mercury Prize for best album of the year. In 2023, he released his second album, Lahai, to much praise from critics.
