Nigerian megastar Wizkid intentionally reignited his long-running rivalry with fellow superstar Davido in an apparent effort to regain popularity, according to renowned entertainment journalist Joey Akan.

The latest round of bickering between the hitmakers began when Wizkid trolled Davido on social media by sharing a video that allegedly showed Davido begging a woman for sex.

This set off a war of words between their passionate fan bases on X and other social media platforms since Monday, April 29.

Commenting on the situation, Akan observed that "Wizkid is the biggest winner of this 'beef.'"

He asserted the Grammy award winner deliberately used Davido and Don Jazzy, another Nigerian star, "to worm his way back into pop culture conversations" after his influence had declined.

According to Akan, "Prior to this beef, Wizkid conversation has shrinked to near-niche levels, with nothing new other than duds being fed into the music pipelines and sold as high art."

He noted Wizkid's loyal fanbase had paradoxically "eroded Wizkid's local influence by patrolling the internet, and making him a toxic overlord," causing conversations about the singer to diminish.

Now, with the online battle reignited, Akan says Wizkid is "fighting in public to cling to dominance, and doing the ordinary things to stir conversations" like his earlier career controversies.
