SEP 30, 2016 LISTEN

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi was elected onto the FIFA Executive Council to become the first Ghanaian, after Ohene Djan to serve on the committee.

Nyantakyi picked one of CAF's two remaining slots on the FIFA Executive Council, after he polled 31 votes, just behind Almamy Kabele Camara, the President of the Guinea Football Association, who won 37 votes.

In the early 1960's Ohene Djan beat off competition from Tessema of Ethiopia to be elected onto the FIFA Executive Committee and served on the Committee until 1966 when as a result of the 1966 Coup de'tat he was removed from office as well.

2016 is a great year for Kwesi Nyantakyi, whose club Wa All Stars made history as the first club from the three Northern regions (Upper West, Upper East and Northern regions) to win the Ghanaian top flight league and Nyantakyi also achieving an enviable feat as the second Ghanaian to be elected onto the FIFA Executive Council.
