Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi becomes the first Ghanaian to serve on world football's powerful cabinet after securing one of two FIFA Executive Council slots available.

In a close race, Kwesi Nyantakyi finished second with 31 votes, only one more than close competitor Ahmad of Madagascar, who had 30 votes to sweep onto FIFA Council on Thursday in Cairo.

He was standing the election to the new-look FIFA Council where Africa has been given two additional seats in FIFA’s cabinet.

CAF Vice President Almany Kabele Camara came first with 37 votes.


The results are:
Ahmad (Madagascar): 30
Almamy Kabele Camara (Guinea): 37
Kwesi Nyantakyi (Ghana): 31

The newly elected members will only sit on the council until March next year when another elections will be held.

The 36-member FIFA Council will hold its first meeting in Zurich on October 13-14.
