Millennium Marathon 2016 – Less Than 10 Days More

The Millennium Marathon Sports Limited is the organiser of the Millennium Marathon (half marathon) event. The Marathon was founded by Ashim Morton, a Ghanaian Entrepreneur and philanthropist to raise awareness of healthy living and promote sports tourism in Ghana.

The Millennium Marathon which comes off on Saturday, September 3, 2016 is run by a multinational board comprising of seasoned marathon runners, former athletes, sports broadcasters with 2 time Olympic Champion and marathon legend Haile Gebreselassie as race director.

The Millennium Marathon 21k race course is an AIMS certified half marathon course with close to 15,000 participants. The race overs a unique Ghanaian scenery with the route showcasing the lovely monuments of Accra and other tourist attractions including the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the Independence Arch, the Black Star Square and the lovely beaches of Accra. There is also a 5 kilometre race for social and lifestyle, corporate and fun runners.

The Millennium Marathon Sports Limited organizes and promotes long distance running in Ghana. The company organises annual regional races in the 10 regions of Ghana prior to the international throughout the year. It is estimated that between 500 and 800 marathons are staged in the world each year, involving hundreds of thousands of competitors and millions of spectators and viewers. The Millennium Marathon in Accra is poised to attract at least 40,000 participants from all walks of life.

It is the vision of the company to become a Pan African world class marathon vision that brings people all over the world together to celebrate the spirit of humanity whiles achieving health and endurance milestones,

The Millennium Marathon is organized with support from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly led by the Mayor of Accra, Other partners include the Ministries of Youth and Sports, Health, Tourism Culture and Creative Arts, and Education. Agencies including the National Sports Authority together with the Ghana Olympic Committee are art of the Planning committee.

The 2016 Millennium Marathon "Africa on the Run" is a Pan African run for Health and Peace. This year's race presents an agenda to give attention to a continental drive to support the United Nations "Sustainable Development Goals" of Good Health and well-being in addition to other social issues such as peace facing Africa.

The biggest half marathon in Accra Ghana is bringing together runners from all over the world to compete, run for charity and promote health & peace.
