The CFO being assisted to cut the tape to declare the station open.

A Fire Station has been commissioned to serve the Fire and Safety needs of the Ministries enclave in Accra

It was jointly commissioned by the Head of the Civil Service, Nana Agyekum-Dwamena, Mr, Samuel Amankwah, Head of Research at the Ministry of Interior, who represented the Minister and the Chief Fire Officer, Dr Albert Brown Gaisie.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister for the Interior said human activities and infrastructural development have been on the increase in the Ministries' enclave and its environs and that called for a Fire Station to provide fire, rescue and evacuation services for both workers and visitors.

He commended the expansion policy of the Ghana National Fire Service which has culminated in the provision of the Ministries Fire Station and asked that all should appreciate the efforts of the Ghana National Fire Service by ensuring fire safety in their daily dealings.

Nana Agyekum-Dwamena, Head of the Civil Service in his address indicated that government business has seen a growth and so have been the Ministries and their associated fire risk, and therefore the need for a Fire Station.

He called on all the Ministries and Departments to support the Fire Service in their Safety Education and Prevention drive.

Nana Aygkum-Dwamena assured of efforts to decongest the Ministries enclave by removing all obstructions to allow free flow of movement to facilitate the work of the Fire Service.

The Chief Fire Officer, Dr Albert Brown Gaisie on his part noted that the threat to safety has become high because of globalization and technology.

He added that effects of fire on the socio-economic life of the nation is unquantifiable, and added that “there is no commensurate value for property loss from fire due to the inability to provide safety protection equipment in our premises.”

He therefore called for regular simulation exercises to be conducted in all public facilities.

The Ministries Fire Station brings to 27, the number of Fire Stations Commissioned since October 2015, all in an effort to get the services of the Fire Service closer to the people.
