Health Tobinco Group organises screening exercise

Kumasi, Sept. 29, GNA - The Tobinco Group of Companies, have organised a health screening exercise for residents in Kumasi in commemoration of the celebration of Founder's Day.

The exercise, which took place at the forecourt of Agyenkwa FM, a media subsidiary of the Tobinco Group of Companies in Kumasi, on Wednesday included provision of drugs to beneficiaries.

Mrs Millicent Akoto, Executive Director of the Tobinco Foundation speaking in an interview to the GNA said the body is the charitable arm of the Tobinco Group of Companies found it necessary to organise an event that would give back to the society what the Group has gotten from the society, hence the screening exercise.

Mrs Akoto urged the public to expect better services from the Foundation and the group, adding that giving out to make others live, is its priority.

Mr Kwaku Opoku Appiah, Acting Managing Director of the Tobinco Group of Companies said: 'As part of our healthcare delivery, we don't only take money from individuals through selling of our products but also use activities including donation of food items, drugs, money or conducting free medical screening for members of the Ghanaian society to show appreciation and concern to the public.'

Mr Opoku Appiah said the Group made provisions for 1500 individuals with drugs and medical equipment worth GH¢ 30,000.00.

He said: 'We contracted over 50 doctors and nurses for this exercise to ensure that Ghanaians get the necessary medical attention they deserve. Therefore we don't care how much we spend to operationalise our plans for them.'

The Acting Management Director noted that the Group would use their media platforms comprising Atinka FM in Accra, Atinka TV, Agenkwa FM in Kumasi and Ahoto FM in Takoradi to propagate their Corporate Social Responsibility activities to Ghanaians as well as how and when they would undertake them to give hope to the hopeless.

He mentioned TobBlues Properties, Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Centre, which is the largest drug manufacturing company in West Africa and second largest in Africa, Priority Insurance, ABii National Savings and Loans, and Dor Events as other subsidiaries of the Group that supported the exercise in cash and kind.

He said they gave out their new product La Wash Feminine Hygiene Wash to every grown up woman who went through the exercise to keep them clean and free from infections.

Dr Emma Osei, Senior House Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital who was part of the exercise said among the health status screened were blood pressure, sugar level, malaria parasite, Hepatitis B, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

'We examined them, counselled them on the right steps to take to secure their health and provided them with drugs as well and so far we have found the exercise very fruitful,' she said.

She said adults and children who went through the exercise were given drugs including de-wormer, malaria drugs, antibiotics, cough syrup, blood tonics, and pain killers.
