THE ATTENTION of residents of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, will be focused on the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) today as assembly members would be voting to elect a new Presiding Member (PM) for the House.

Today’s election would be the fifth time that members would be voting on to elect a PM.

Four previous elections ended in stalemate and sometimes confusion and extreme anger among members.

Nana Kofi Senya, New Suame assemblyman and Baffuor Agyei Kesse, Adumhene, contested in those polls.

Reports making the rounds from the corridors of the KMA suggested that the two men would back out of today's race.

Other rumours indicated that a compromised candidate would be presented to the House.

KMA PRO, Godwin Okumah Nyame, confirmed on radio that the polls would take place today.

He however, stated that he was not aware of any moves to present a compromised candidate to the assembly.

Okumah Nyame said he was hopeful that the assembly would elect a PM to help enhance Kumasi’s development.

Previous elections under the deposed KMA boss, Kojo Bonsu, ended in exchange of blows.

It is not clear whether the previous animosity would be ignited again under the caretaker MCE, John Alexander Ackon, the Regional Minister.
