Tema, Aug 23, GNA - Bishop Daniel Obinim, Founder of International God's Way Church, has turned himself in to the Tema Regional Domestic Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

The Bishop was invited by the Police on Friday after a complaint was lodged against him by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection following a video footage of him publicly flogging two young persons with a belt during a church service for having premarital sex resulting in pregnancy.

Angel Obinim, as he refers to himself, reported at the Unit at about 1000 hours accompanied by some of his church elders.

After being interrogated for over five hours, he was handcuffed and escorted into a white pick-up vehicle at about 1535 hours to be transferred to National headquarters of Crime Investigation Division (CID) in Accra.

A large crowd comprising of sympathisers and the general public thronged the police station to catch a glimpse of him.

Some of Bishop Obinim's flock who were visibly not happy with the media presence, accused journalists of deliberate distortion of facts about him.

One of the members who gave his name as Ray charged at the cameraman for Metro TV and head-butted him.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP)Juliana Obeng, Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the media that Bishop Obinim was cautioned for physical abuse but was yet to be charged with the offence.

ASP Obeng said one of his accomplices has also reported while another was expected to turn himself in on Wednesday.

Checks at the DOVVSU indicated that he cooperated with the Police and admitted to the offence in his caution statement.
