Accra, Aug. 3, GNA - The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has launched a mobile express service to bring its activities closer to customers.

The express service is to afford clients the opportunity to access the authority's services in the comfort and convenience of their location.

Mr Noble Appiah, the Chief Executive of DVLA, said presently the authority has 27 operational centres, making a large number of people not to easily access their services.

He said this has contributed largely to the growing negative incidence of the phenomenon of 'Goro boys' in the system.

He said the initiative would increase access to services rendered by the authority.

He said the launch of the service would bring some of its services closer to the public including acquisition of learner driver's licence, renewal of learners' driver's licence, issuance of international driving permit, upgrading of driver's licence, renewal of driver's licence and replacement of driver's licence.

He said for a start, the authority is using two mobile branded vans, which would commence operation from Monday, August 8 at Ellembelle District of the Western Region and the Afram Plains of the Eastern Region.

'The service will further be available to customers in the Greater Accra and Central Regions and two additional vans will be added to the existing number by December,' he added.

He said the service was targeted at corporate institutions, Associations, tertiary institutions, organised Driver's Union and any other recognised groups at service charges.

Mr Appiah said the DVLA is dedicated to providing excellent customer service to its customers.

He said to access the service, institutions or group of persons could write to the DVLA requesting the service to be rendered to them with agreed time and date for the authority to visit their location.

He said the second option for the public to access the service, would be through publications in the daily newspapers on the days to be in the districts, where people expecting the service would be available to access it.

The Chief Executive said the service was just one of the several initiatives the authority is embarking on to increase its service, urging the public to provide feedback in order to enhance its effectiveness and efficiency.

He announced that there are other strategic initiatives to be launched in the coming weeks including premium service, tertiary student driver's licence and training schools.
