Bolgatanga, July 23, GNA - Fifty species of acacia trees that were planted by a driver of the Forestry Division in the Upper East Region, Mr Abdul-Rahaman Abubakari, four years ago, in the yard of the Regional Directorate of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were doing very well.

He said what motivated him to undertake the activity was the fact that desertification was creeping fast into the region and to halt its spread, demanded the concerted effort of all.

This came to light when the driver visited the area with some media personnel to see how the trees were doing.

'I decided to collaborate with the Ghana National Fire Service to grow the trees because they are also passionate about the environment. Being a driver does not mean you should be limited to your profession and that is why I learnt the techniques in growing trees besides my usual occupation', Mr Abubakari said.

He appealed to every person to grow a tree, stressed that it would help make Ghana green and help prevent desertification.
