NPP wont steal SADA money – Bawumia

New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate for the 2016 elections in November, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has stressed his party's commitment to transform Ghana’s economy and also bridge the gap between the North and South of the country.

Speaking in Wa on the 5th leg of his ongoing Ramadan/Zongo Tour, Dr Bawumia assured the people of the North that an NPP government under Nana Akufo-Addo would be earnest in their efforts to develop the Northern part of the country.

He also said an NPP government would not allow the embezzlement of public funds meant for development as has happened with the much maligned Savannah Accelerated Development Project (SADA).

“The North will see a major development. We are not going to take SADA money and steal it,” Dr. Bawumia assured.

SADA was envisioned to boost development of the three northern regions and parts of the Brong Ahafo Region, but coordinating a comprehensive development agenda for the area by assisting in the development of agriculture and industry, to help lessen the economic disparity between the North and South.

But with a 5-year business plan which begun in 2012, SADA is yet to showcase any significant achievements after some 32 million cedis allocated was squandered largely due to financial mismanagement and corruption.

This forced President John Dramani Mahama to replace its chief executive as well as the board, to steer the affairs of the agency.

During his address, Dr. Bawumia also bemoaned the cancellation of nursing and teacher training allowances as he had done on previous campaign legs.

“Today, our secondary schools in the north and even our teacher training colleges are not getting their feeding grants,” he said as he appealed for the support of Wa.

“Today our economy is struggling and therefore we need a change. We are going to build a new economy where everybody is going to benefit,” he added.
