Town and Area Councilors Schooled on Local Government Act

Councilors of all five Town and Area councils of the Asutifi North District Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region have completed a day’s workshop on Structure and Composition of the Local Government System and Model Standing Orders Enterprise as part of moves to equip them implement their in the various electoral areas.

In all a total of 75 participants drawn from Ntotroso, Kenyasi No.1, Kenyasi No.2, Gambia and Goamu Town and Area councils took part in the exercise. It was organized and facilitated by the E. Osei and Associates and sponsored by the assembly.

Speaking at the workshop, a Resource person and lecturer at the Sunyani Polytechnic, Mr. Ntoah Boadi stated the training was important to equip them with the necessary skills and understanding of modern approach to planning and management to enable them oversee the involvement of the grassroots at every stage of the development process.

This, he said was to help avoid instances of confusion and duplication of activities and therefore appealed to the councilors to have a clear understanding of their roles and other key actors in the development chain to ensure efficiency in project implementation.

He explained the workshop afforded the opportunity to be efficient and effective as leaders to help community members to active in communal activities, identification of development priorities and ownership and implementation of the projects.

Mr. Boadi encouraged the participants to see criticism and accusations as challenges of the job and develop problem solving measures to contain them.

He tasked them be guided by their model standing orders in the execution of their mandate and work closely with assembly as the final authority in the area.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Eric Addae for his part pledged the assembly’s continuous support to them as a way of facilitating grass root participation in governance.

He tasked them to be guided by the Act establishing the councils and called for collaboration to ensure projects and initiatives implemented by the assembly were useful and sustainable.

Head of Training of E. Osei and Associates, Mr. Amposah Badu Isaac, in his welcome address advised participants to take the training serious and encouraged them to share experiences for the general good of the district.
