Health NHIA holds regional quiz competitions about its operations
JUN 29, 2016 LISTEN

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIA) is organizing a nationwide quiz  competition among some selected senior high schools.

This is a calculated attempt to bridge the knowledge gap between its subscribers and non-subscribers on the NHIA’s operations.

Four second cycle institutions comprising Tamale Senior High (Tamasco), Yendi  Senior High, Savelugu  Senior High and Tamale Girls Senior High (Pagnaa) schools participated in the second edition of that of Northern Region.

The participants answered questions such as which year the NHIA established? Who is the current CEO of the NHIA and what are some of the features on NHIA cards?

Tamasco emerged victorious at the end of the contest with 52 points followed by Savelugu senior high with 42 points.

Yendi senior high scored third with 40 points whiles the host school, Tamale Girls Senior High occupied the fourth position with 39 points.

The award winners, Tamasco, received GHc500 and exercise books whiles the other three competitors received exercise books and other valuables.

Temasco will represent the Northern Region at the national level where the overall winner will receive GHc100,000 and some goodies.

The NHIA’s Northern Regional Operations Manager, Roger Aposs, said the quiz competition formed part of the authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

According to him, the event is targeted at empowering students to serve as game changers in the authority’s quest to  reach out to the masses.

Roger Aposs reaffirmed the authority’s determination to always satisfy their subscribers and pleaded with non-subscribers to register with the NHIA.

The Tamale Girls Senior High School Assistant Headteacher in charge of academics, Ibrahim Gunu, suggested that, the NHIA should periodically visit the various SHSs after admissions and register non-subscribers.

He anticipated such a move will create opportunity for old subscribers to renew their expired cards.

Ibrahim Gunu lauded the regional quiz competition and admonished students to take advantage of it and deepen their knowledge on the NHIA’s operations.
