Health Marie Stopes supports adolescent reproductive health in UEast

Marie Stopes International Ghana(MSIG) under its ‘NO YAWA PROJECT’, has donated logistics and items to the Upper East Regional Health Directorate to support  adolescent reproductive health.

The items include couches, IUCD, Implant kits, theatre stools, dressing drums, arm-less chairs and trolleys to ten

Recreational items such as LCD televisions, DVDs, plastic chairs and games- Ludu, Oware,Basket ball and footballs were also provided to make the centers more friendly to the youth and adolescent.

MSIG  also donated four Honda motorbikes to four health facilities to aid outreaches to youth in remote areas of the region.

The ten beneficiary health centers are; Plaza, Zuarungu, Pusiga, Kulungungu and Chiana health centers. The rest are Anarfobisi, Bongo Soe, Mognori, Paga and Urban East health centers.

Upper East Regional Director of operation for MSIG, Mr. George Akanlu, said the aim of the project was to create a movement to educate adolescent (15-24 yrs) on sexual reproductive health, while facilitating access to services such as counseling, sexually transmitted disease infection management, contraception  and comprehensive abortion care to curb the menace the youth are prone to during adolescent stage.

He added that, the project will also focus on improving sexual and reproductive health behaviours of adolescent and increase the patronage of family planning methods and other reproductive health services by adolescents.

According to Mr. Akanlu, series of activities such as conducting wide range of awareness building and youth targeted behaviour change communication, reliable and continuous supply of high -quality affordable contraceptives  at the convenience of adolescent throughout the affected health care facilities and the country at large.

Upper East Regional Director of Health Services Dr. Kofi Issah, expressed profound gratitude for the gesture and pledged to use the items to improve the reproductive health of adolescents and as well improve the socio-economic lives of people in the region.

He cautioned beneficiary facilities to take proper care of the items and ensure regular maintenance of the items.
