Education Mahama lauds WAEC over leakage free BECE
JUN 27, 2016 LISTEN

President John Dramani Mahama has lauded the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for pulling off the best-organised examination at the Basic level in the country.

He expressed his excitement over the organisation of the 2016 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which saw no paper leakage throughout the week.

“I’m pleased to note that WAEC has risen to the occasion to deal with the shameful examination malpractices that have plagued examinations over the past several years,” he said.

President Mahama disclosed this when he addressed students, teachers and parents at the 70th Anniversary ceremony of the Aburi Girls Secondary School on June 25, 2016.

WAEC has come under severe pressure to ensure that this year’s examinations are ridden of exam leakage which fraught 2015’s exams.

In a bid to protect the last vestige of its reputation, WAEC adopted some measures which include flying of papers to examination centers and the use of personnel of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to help in the distribution of papers to avert the challenges of 2015.
