Chairman Afoko, Ken Agyapong And Sammi Awuku Deserve Golden Ornaments!
25.03.2015 LISTEN

My dismay at the outcome of the NEC meeting knew no bounds, as it hit me cold in the face. Thousands of patriots expectantly waited to hear a detailed road map of when and how our parliamentary primaries would be conducted, only to be slapped with two heartbreaking news;

1. Female MPs shouldn't be contested by male aspirants

2. Aspirants contesting sitting MPs should pay a developmental fee of ¢20,000.

I was shocked to the bone marrow with particular reference to the decision not to allow male aspirants to contest female MPs. It frowns in the face of logic since it does not in any way enhance our electoral fortunes. It is an election losing strategy, at best. Was the NPP formed to prioritize this so-called affirmative action over winning power?

What research went into this ill-conceived decision to form the basis for such an absurd policy to be forced down our throats? If the NPP was formed to promote gender over winning political power, we should be told now! How can a party in opposition adopt such dangerous policies? This is suicidal, and must be abandoned with immediate effect!

Is it not strange that even the NDC, the party in power, doesn't waste our ears with this unrealistic affirmative action but the NPP, a party in opposition, is busily promoting it! Though I am losing hope, I take consolation in the fact that Chairman Afoko, Hon.Ken Agyapong and Sammi Awuku stood up to defend the masses out there who risk their lives to traverse the various towns and villages campaigning to project some of the NEC members to the top.

Afoko and co, by this exemplary stance, proved to us that they are the voices of the voiceless, the protectors of the vulnerable in the party. To Chairman Afoko, Ken Agyapong and Sammi Awuku, I say, thank you for fighting for us. To those who, for reasons best known to themselves, forcibly yanked this heavy yoke on our shoulders, I say, may you never falter in this your ill-informed agenda, for posterity will never forgive you if the NPP loses the next elections.
