Sports News EXCLUSIVE: GFA shuts door on new applicants for Black Stars job, Stephen Keshi affected
OCT 27, 2014 LISTEN

Stephen Keshi has been dealt a massive blow in his pursuit to become coach of Ghana after the GFA declared it will not consider new applicants, MTNFootball.com has reported.

The former Nigerian coach has expressed interest in becoming the substantive replacement of Kwesi Appiah a few weeks after leaving his post with the Super Eagles.

Keshi's interest however appears to have come too late in the day as the Ghana FA had already shortlisted and conducted interviews for the vacancy.

The GFA's interview panel will be submitting its report this week for further deliberations – leading to the appointment of one of the interviewed applicants.

A choice is expected to be made amongst the interviewed trio; Michel Pont, Juan Ignacio Jiminenz and Avram Grant soon after the report is submitted before the GFA's Executive Committee this week.

Keshi has however declared his interest regardless of how far the process has traveled and the fact that he didn't apply for the job.

But member of the interview panel and Vice President of the Ghana FA Fred Crentsil says the ex Mali coach's interest has come too late and will not be considered.

“The door is shut because the time frame for interested coaches to apply has already expired,” Crentsil told MTNFootball.com.

“We are at the concluding stages of the process and we will be presenting our report this week.

“So I don't see how he [Stephen Keshi] can be considered for the job because he didn't apply when the opportunity was presented.”
